Pohela Boishakh is the first day of Bangla Calendar both in Bangladesh and in West Bengle, Assam, Tripura of India.
Pohela Boishakh fall in 14/15th April of English Gregorian calendar. In Bangladesh, 14th is the official celebration day as per official amended calendar by Bangla Academy. In some places/people celebrate this in 15th as per Old Bangla calendar / Hindu calendar. 14th is National Holiday in Bangladesh to celebrate Pohela Boishakh.
Pohela Boishakh is celebrated in every part, city of Bangladesh. I went in Dhaka University to celebrate the festival and it was my first time with camera. Here are some photos from Pohela Boishakh 1416
I was entering in DU through the Doyel Chattr to TSC road. In between I started my first click of Boishak by capturign Bibi Russell and her Truck rally.
Just beside the Dus, the stopped and come down to road, had a dance
I got some video as well
then starts again.. and i also left the place..
i was planning to to Art Institute and suddenly saw a rally of horse. I captured that
At the center of TSC Circle, preparation of concert was going on. Musician was playing music and some tribal girls was also waiting to show a dance.
Finally I started for Art Institute and found a rally by TSC members. Also captured the Demo Crocodile, Owl and Eliphant which is gonna used in Mongol Shuva Jatra.
there was many flooting business man showing his product by playing music
found many people with masks, i got one of them
then finally entered in Art Institute and saw the preparation of Mongol Shuva Jatra
then suddenly saw, some musician came and starts playing… i think its some kind of warm up policy 🙂
Then finally Mongol Shuva Jatra begains and it came out of Art Institute
and its on road
Police as security in front of hte rally
uncountable people joined the rally
Then Mongol Shuva Jatra passed by me and I started shoting something else and I found another short rally by Nogor Shongkirton, a hindu community
then i shot some other rally and faces
Again I entered in the Art Institute and behind the Bokul Tola, found Nagor Doul Service. People were really enjoying it
finally I went for some portraits
This is my first Boishak as an amature photographer. At the end of the festival I realized there are lots of things I’ve missed.. such as Ramna Boto Mul function by Chaya Not, Panta Elish, Hal Khata, Dhanmondi Robindro Sorebor etc. Hope for next year to cover left things.. Now I just need to wait another one year for the missed shots!
